Introduction
Did you know that every year on 27 August, Kenya commemorates Katiba Day to mark the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, on 27 August 2010?
The promulgation of the Constitution marked a significant moment in Kenya’s history. It introduced a new constitutional framework that strengthened the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, established devolved government, enhanced public participation, and placed greater emphasis on accountability, transparency and the rule of law.
Katiba Day provides an opportunity for Kenyans to
reflect on the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and
the responsibilities that come with them.
