International Lawyers’ Day

Celebrating justice, equality, and the rule of law

At Wambui Gichui & Co. Advocates, we join the global legal community in celebrating International Lawyers’ Day. This day recognizes the invaluable role lawyers play in upholding justice, protecting human rights, providing legal counsel, and promoting the rule of law.

Since the establishment of the International Association of Lawyers (UIA) on 3rd February 1947, this day has served as a reminder of the profession’s responsibility to safeguard fairness and equality in society.

Equality Before the Law

Article 27 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 affirms that every person is equal before the law and entitled to equal protection and benefit. Discrimination is prohibited on grounds including race, sex, age, disability, religion, and ethnic origin.

Fair Hearing & Access to Justice (Articles 48 & 50)

Every accused person has the right to a fair hearing, including the presumption of innocence, the right to legal representation, and the right to remain silent. The State is obligated to ensure access to justice for all.

Socio-Economic Equality

The Constitution guarantees socio-economic rights such as access to housing, sanitation, clean water, free basic education, and social security—rights fundamental to human dignity.

On this International Lawyers’ Day, we acknowledge that consistent and deliberate efforts are required to address ethnic and class disparities, implement the two-thirds gender rule, and reduce economic inequality.

At Wambui Gichui & Co. Advocates, we remain committed to delivering justice with integrity, supporting our clients, and contributing positively to the communities we serve.
